How long would you wait before trying to help?

Psychosis - a condition which affects the mind's ability to decide what's real and what's not - can happen to anyone. At any time. Whether there's a build up of everyday stresses or a specific trauma, it will cause someone's behaviour to change.

A bit like being underwater, for someone experiencing psychosis things seem different, but it can be hard for them to understand, explain or even notice. They might look the same on the surface, but underneath their world is changing. Changes can happen suddenly, or gradually over time. However it happens, the longer it's left the harder it will be to see through it, to talk about it or to find a way out.

That's where Cornwall's Early Intervention Service can help. Our team of professionals understand how confusing, distressing, worrying and frightening these changes can be, both for the person immersed in it and for those stood on the side.

Focused on people aged between 14 - 35, we work with every individual and their

family in the best way for them, to make sure they get the support they need.

Signs that someone's reality is shifting are varied. They might seem withdrawn, be hearing or seeing things you can't hear or see, be wary of people they used to trust, be eating and sleeping differently, or become increasingly confused, anxious or irritable. It might just be that there is something different about them which you can't put a finger on.

If you notice unusual behaviour changes in a family member, a friend, someone you work with or just someone you know, Cornwall's Early Intervention Team can help; from reassurance and support to assessments and referrals.

If you are worried, get in touch. It's what we're here for.
